Quadriplegic driver makes racing debut – BBC Info

Light IndyCar driver Sam Schmidt change into paralysed from the shoulders down in a racing accident in 2000.

Now, 21 years later, he’s making his debut at Goodwood Festival of Bustle in a semi-self sustaining car that is controlled with head movements for turns and “sip-and-puff” management for acceleration.

Mr Schmidt essentially based and co-owns the Arrow McLaren SP, which has obtained 12 IndyCar races.

In 2013, he partnered with a crew of engineers at Arrow Electronics with the target of getting him to pressure a racing car over again.
